Jorge Otero-Pailos, assistant professor of historic preservation at Columbia University, will speak at Syracuse University's School of Architecture on April 7 at 7 p.m. The lecture, titled "History Grafts in Latin American Architecture," will take place in 108 Slocum Hall; it is free and open to the public.
Before joining Columbia, Otero-Pailos was senior designer at Perkins-Eastman Architects. His professional awards include a dissertation research award from the Henry Luce Foundation; a Schlossman dissertation fellowship; a Hyzen dissertation award; and an Angel Ramos Foundation Research Grant. He is a member of the DoCoMoMo national board, a group working to document and preserve Modern Movement (1920-1970) buildings and sites.
Otero-Pailos received a BA in architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MA in architecture from Cornell, and a PhD in architecture from MIT.
