Cadets of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) at Syracuse University will host the 87th Annual Chancellor's Review and Awards Ceremony today, April 1. The celebration starts at 2 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. Held in honor of SU Chancellor and President Nancy Cantor, it recognizes cadets who have shown exemplary achievement throughout the year. The event is by invitation only. A reception will follow in the Orange Pack Room.
The ceremony provides an opportunity for guests to join in a time-honored tradition of celebrating student cadets and their outstanding accomplishments through the presentation of awards sponsored by local and national civilian and military organizations. Those attending include University officials, members of SU's civic and educational partnerships and supporters.
In addition to Cantor, invited guests include retired general and former Army chief of staff Edward C. Meyer, ROTC Col. Keith George, Syracuse Fire Department Chief John T. Cowin and SU Vice President for Undergraduate Studies Ronald R. Cavanagh. Numerous organizations will attend, including the American Veterans of World War II, the American Legion, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
A special portion of the ceremony will celebrate the inductions of the Rev. Richard Dean '67 and retired Lieutenant Colonel Victor Holman '82 into the SU Army ROTC Stalwart Battalion Hall of Fame, which was established in 1997 to honor those graduates of the program who have distinguished themselves with their military and civilian achievements.
"These individuals exemplify Army values and what it means to be an Army officer, and their accomplishments serve as an inspiration to our cadets and cadre and provide motivation to follow in their footsteps," says Army Maj. Michael A. Bianchi, admissions officer for the SU Army ROTC.

For more than 80 years, the ROTC at SU has instilled in students the values of teamwork, leadership and patriotism, while providing the financial support they need to complete their degrees. Today, the Army and Air Force ROTC Corps of Cadets at SU train both men and women to take leadership positions in military careers and in civilian life.
