Syracuse University's First Year Players will perform its annual spring musical, "Follies," April 7-9 at 8 p.m., in Goldstein Auditorium, Schine Student Center. "Follies," the group's 13th musical production, features a cast of 21 first-year and transfer students and is sponsored by SU's Pulse and the Student Association.
Tickets are $7 for general admission and $4 for faculty, staff and students with SU I.D. They are available at the Schine Box Office by calling (315) 443-4517. Paid parking for the April 7 performance will be available in the Marion and Watson lots. Parking in both lots will be free for the April 8-9 performances.
Set in the 1970s, "Follies," by Stephen Sondheim, details the gathering of the former Weissmann Follies performers at their theater before it is to be torn down. Among the songs and dances, including "Broadway Baby" and "The Right Girl," the audience reminisces with the characters about memories of past romances, both good and bad, before they are brought back to their realities of post-stardom. The characters are aware that this is their last chance to stand in the old theater, and long to take their final bows.
First Year Players, a student-run musical theater organization, was founded in 1992 with the goal of providing first year, non-drama majors the opportunity to showcase singing, dancing and acting talents. Many of the students who perform in the annual musical return to join the upperclass production staff that runs the organization and produces events. This year 39 students comprise the staff.
