The Syracuse University Counseling Center, a unit of the Division of Student Affairs, is sponsoring an Anxiety Screening Day on March 24 at the Schine Student Center for students, faculty and staff. The free, confidential screening program will include an educational presentation, a written self-test, a private meeting with a mental health professional and a referral if appropriate.

According to the Counseling Center, many people experience feelings of panic or fear, or of being keyed up or stressed out, which could signal anxiety disorders. These disorders, which are treatable mental illnesses, affect more than 19 million people in the United States each year.

"For students, the college years are exciting, but at times, they can also be very demanding and stressful," says Mariah Pfeiffer, staff therapist at the Counseling Center. "By reaching out to the campus community to educate them about anxiety, we are hopeful we can help students and others understand the symptoms of anxiety, the things they can do to help themselves, and the resources available to assist them."

The clinicwill be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Rooms 304 A-C of the Schine Student Center. For more information, call the Counseling Center at 443-4715.
