Syracuse University's Rose, Jules R. and Sanford S. Setnor School of Music will host the noted composer and classical guitarist James Piorkowski, who will perform on March 23 at 8 p.m. The concert will be held in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, located in Crouse College. The performance is free and open to the public with complimentary parking available in the Irving Garage.
Piorkowski's repertoire ranges from Renaissance lute works to world premieres of 21st century compositions. He has performed all over the United States and in Canada, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Jamaica, where he premiered his composition "The Greatest of These" in 2000. His recordings include "Freedom Flight: Guitar Music by Ortiz and Piorkowski," "Gypsy's Round: Renaissance and Baroque Transcriptions" and "New Music for Four
Guitars."
Piorkowski is a professor of music at the Fredonia School of Music, State University College of New York, where he heads the guitar program.
