Vice Chancellor and Provost Deborah A. Freund has announced the appointment of Carole Brzozowski as the dean of Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA). The appointment was made after a national search. Brzozowski has led the college since April 2000, when she was appointed acting dean. She was named interim dean in 2000 and appointed to a two-year deanship in 2002.
"Carole has done a brilliant job as dean of VPA over the last 4 years," says Freund. "There is no one who loves VPA more than she does, and I have complete confidence that the College will be everything that it can be under her continued leadership."
Brzozowski joined the University in 1978, providing administrative support in the Independent Study Degree Program. She also worked in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management and former College for Human Development before moving to VPA, where she served as the college's assistant dean for undergraduate student services from 1994-2000.
A 1981 graduate of the Setnor School of Music, Brzozowski gives music performances regionally and in Canada. She specializes in the sacred literature of the early Baroque, French Romantic and Modern periods. She is a guest soprano soloist in cathedrals and recital halls in Syracuse, Rochester, Albany, Ottawa and Kingston. She serves on numerous arts-oriented boards in the Syracuse area.
