March 14 will mark the dedication of the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University, as well as honor the life and work of the late U.S. senator and University Professor.
The day will begin with a dedication ceremony at 11:30 a.m., featuring Senators Charles Schumer and Hillary Clinton, followed by a symposium at which influential policymakers and analysts will debate a range of domestic and international issues that shape the legacy of Sen. Moynihan, including population aging and Social Security, security and civil rights, and globalization. Speakers will include Social Security Trustee John L. Palmer; Walden Bello, a leader of the anti-globalization movement; Washington Post columnist George Will; and Federal Judge Rosemary Pooler. The day will culminate with a "Tribute to Pat" banquet moderated by Tim Russert, moderator of NBC's "Meet the Press."
Sen. Moynihan had a long relationship with the Maxwell School, beginning as an assistant professor in 1959 until he entered public service at the U.S. Department of Labor in 1961. Upon retiring from the Senate in 2001 after 24 years of service, Moynihan re-joined the Maxwell School as University Professor, a position he held until his death last year. The Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs is funded in part by a $10 million federal endowment sponsored by Sen. Charles Schumer.

The dedication and symposium events will be open to the community.
