Syracuse University will continue its celebration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during its seventh annual "I Have a Dream Week," Jan. 18-23.
The events are sponsored by the Office of Residence Life in the Division of Student Affairs and are free and open to the public. The scheduled events include:

Sunday, Jan. 18

• Second Annual MLK Symposium. Sunday, Jan. 18, from 4-7 p.m. in Watson Theatre. The symposium is a panel discussion that honors the legacy and work of King by addressing three of his goals-the elimination of poverty, racism and war. Sponsored by the African American Male Congress and the Honors Student Association.
  
  
• Candlelight Vigil. Hendricks Chapel, 7 p.m. Sponsored by the Residence Hall Association.
  
  

Monday, Jan. 19

• "Day On, Not a Day Off" Day of Service." Food and clothing drives will be held in various residence halls. Students, faculty and staff members are encouraged to use their day off to engage in service or plan upcoming projects.
  
  
• Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest. Students are invited to write a 750-1,000-word essay on "What the Dream Means to Me." Submissions are due by 5 p.m. to the Office of Residence Life, 111 Waverly Ave.
  
  

Tuesday, Jan. 20

• "I Have a Dream Speech" and Reflection. Video of MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech will be shown continuously, and opportunities for reflection will be offered. Schine Student Center Atrium, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  
  
• "Dream Smarts." Trivia questions on MLK, civil rights and other issues. Schine Student Center Atrium, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; Goldstein Student Center Atrium, 6-8 p.m.
  

Wednesday, Jan. 21

• MLK Arts Display Reception. Schine Student Center, Rooms 304 B and C, 5-7 p.m.
  
  
• Movie Night. "Brother Outsider" will be shown. Watson Theatre, 8 p.m. Sponsored by the LGBT Resource Center and University Union Cinemas.
  

Thursday, Jan. 22

• Tunnel of Oppression. An educational experience on different forms of oppression. A facilitated discussion follows. Schine Underground, 6-10 p.m. Sponsored by Diverse People Like Us.
  

Friday, Jan. 23

• One Mic, One Dream. Student expressions including singing, poetry and interpretive dance. Goldstein Student Center, South Campus, 7 p.m. Sponsored by the South Campus Organization for Programming Excellence
