Syracuse University's Religion and Society Program in The College of Arts and Sciences will host a symposium on Mel Gibson's "The Passion of The Christ" on Tuesday, March 2, from 2:30-3:45 p.m. in the 1916 Room of SU's E.S. Bird Library. The discussion is free and open to the public.

Five members of the SU community will offer their perspectives of the film during the symposium, which has been organized by Gustav Niebuhr, associate professor of religion and media in the Department of Religion and the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. The panelists and the perspectives they will share include:

• Gail Hamner, assistant professor of religion (cultural theory and film);
  
  
• Zachary Braiterman, associate professor of religion (Jewish thought);
  
  
• Jeff Jackson, a Ph.D student in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications (media studies);
  
• The Rev. Michael McQuitty, SU's Southern Baptist chaplain (Evangelical perspective); and
  
• The Rev. Timothy Mulligan, OFM Conv., and Eileen Pollack from SU's Roman Catholic chaplaincy (Catholic perspective).
