Syracuse University's Office of Multicultural Affairs is seeking nominations for the La Fuerza 2001 Community Enhancement Award.
"La Fuerza" refers to both outer strength and inner perseverance and vision. The award is given annually to students from the current graduating class (including undergraduate, graduate and law students) who have improved the sense of community among cultural groups.
The award is given in recognition of outstanding contributions and commitment to the appreciation of racial and ethnic diversity--including race, economic class, sex, age, (dis)ability, sexual orientation and religion--on the SU campus. It honors exemplary individuals who have used their energy, spirit and leadership to initiate and implement actions that help the University community move to a closer dialogue among people from different races or ethnic groups.
Nominations may be submitted by any member of the University community. Self-nominations will also be accepted. Nomination forms are available in the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Room 105 in the Schine Student Center. Completed materials, including an essay or letter of affirmation, must be submitted to the office by 5 p.m. March 1.
