Steven Heyman, professor of music in Syracuse University's Rose, Jules R. and Sanford S. Setnor School of Music, and Laura Klugherz, guest violinist, will perform works in honor of Black History Month, Feb. 10 at 8 p.m. The performance will be held in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, located in Crouse College.
Heyman, a graduate of the Julliard School of Music, has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. He has received top prizes in several national and international competitions, including the Gina Bachauer, Missouri-Southern and Palm Beach Invitational International Piano Competitions. He is a core member of the Society for New Music, which has received four ASCAP/Chamber Music America Programming Awards.
Klugherz is a graduate of San Francisco State University and holds a master's degree from the University of Texas. She has taught at the San Francisco Conservatory, the University of Notre Dame, the Catholic University in Santiago, Chile, and Southwest Texas State. Klugherz has performed worldwide, including as a soloist with the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Utica Symphony and the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. She is the recipient of a Fulbright grant to study violin in Germany and is a former United States International Agency (USIA) Cultural Specialist to South America.
The concert is part of SU's Tuesday Night Setnor Concert Series, and it free and open to the public. Parking is available in Irving Garage.
