A free, public event this week-the Feb. 8 gathering of Syracuse-area college presidents-will highlight the theme of Chancellor Nancy Cantor's inaugural year, "Exploring the Soul of Syracuse."
"The Academy's Role in Community Development" will be the topic when Cantor and the presidents of several other Syracuse colleges take part in a forum, Feb. 8 from 7-9 p.m., in Maxwell Auditorium.
Panelists plan to take up several questions during the forum: What do you see as your institution's role in the greater Central New York community, and how are you integrating your institution with the community? What supports are needed from the community for your instructional vision to succeed? Are there specific unmet needs holding you back? Each participant will address the forum's topic for 10-12 minutes, followed by discussion.
In addition to Cantor, participants will include Fr. Charles Beirne, president of LeMoyne College; Gregory Eastwood, president of SUNY Upstate Medical University; Cornelius B. Murphy, president of SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry; and Debbie Sydow, president of Onondaga Community College. Mitchel Wallerstein, dean of SU's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, will moderate. Community leaders have been invited to attend.
The event is sponsored in part by the Central New York Maxwell Alumni Association. A reception will follow in the lobby of Maxwell Hall.
