Donald A. Saleh, associate vice president and dean of graduate enrollment at Syracuse University, has been elected to a five-year term as a trustee of the College Board and was inducted into the College Board's College Scholarship Service (CSS) Hall of Fame. Saleh's term as trustee began in November.
Elected and appointed by College Board member delegates, the 31-member board is the governing body of the College Board, a not-for-profit membership association comprised of more than 4,700 schools, colleges, universities, and other educational organizations. Each year, the College Board serves more than 3.5 million students and their parents, 23,000 high schools and 3,500 colleges through major programs and services in college admissions, guidance, assessment, financial aid, enrollment, and teaching and learning. Among its best-known programs are the SAT, the PSAT/NMSQT and the Advanced Placement Program.
Saleh and his fellow College Board trustees have the responsibility to make legal and fiduciary decisions for the corporation; approve the mission, strategic goals, and objectives; establish policies related to membership, programs, and services and approve the annual budget and major program fees; and advise the president, who is responsible for the management of the organization.
Additionally, in recognition of their contributions to the financial aid profession, Saleh and 49 other education leaders were inducted into the College Board's CSS Hall of Fame. This original inductee group was chosen in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the CSS's founding. This honor, formally known as the Fiftieth Anniversary Hall of Fame Award, recognizes individuals who have, through
College Board and CSS activities and services, made significant contributions to the financial aid profession. These individuals have also participated in the governance and associational affairs of CSS and the College Board and represent the values inherent in the organization's mission. New inductees will be added at future milestone anniversary dates.
Saleh, of Manlius, N.Y., came to SU in 2001. Prior to that, he held several positions at Cornell University over a span of 18 years, serving most recently as dean of admissions and financial aid. He holds a master's degree from Kent State University and a bachelor's degree from SUNY College at Buffalo.
Saleh's other professional affiliations include the Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, the Consortium on Financing Higher Education, the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association.
