Syracuse University's Office of Government and Community Relations will host a South Side Community Forum and Service Fair from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.Feb. 8 at the Tucker Missionary Baptist Church, 515 Oakwood St.
The event is an opportunity for University officials and residents to exchange information, and for residents to learn more about University resources. The service fair will immediately follow the forum.
"The University is trying to strengthen the relationship with its surrounding neighbors," says Sylvia Martinez-Daloia, SU director of community relations. "Through the forum and service fair, we hope to make our neighbors more familiar with the University and ways in which we can work together to create a better community."
Eleanor Ware, the University's vice president for human services and government relations, will facilitate the meeting. "Our community forums give us the opportunity to meet face to face with our neighbors and address issues of mutual concern together. Sylvia does a wonderful job of keeping the University in touch with the community, and the forums are essential to open dialogue."
Other University officials who will speak on their area of responsibility include Barry L. Wells, vice president for student affairs and dean of student relations; Louis G. Marcoccia, senior vice president for business, finance and administrative services; and Pamela Kirwin Heintz, director of the Center for Public and Community Service (CPCS). The Rev. Thomas V. Wolfe, dean of Hendricks Chapel, and Martinez-Daloia will talk about their work in the community.
Service fair participants include SU's Office of Human Resources, University College/SU Continuing Education, the University's Internship Program, the Liberty Partnership Program, the Youth Recreation Program, CPCS, the Public Affairs Program in The College of Arts and Sciences and The Maxwell School, the Income Tax Assistance Program in the School of Management, the Marriage and Family Clinical Programs in the College for Human Development, Financial Aid Services, and the Community Design Center in the School of Architecture.
