The Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University will sponsor a lecture titled "Fierce Entanglements: Communication and Ethnopolitical Conflict" by University of Hartford communication professor Donald G. Ellis, Feb. 8 at 12:30 p.m., in the Kilian Room, Room 500 of the Hall of Languages. The lecture is free and open to the public.
The presentation on the nature of ethnopolitical conflicts, with a focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, will also include new thinking about ethnicity and its role in cultural conflict. Ellis will analyze the role of communication and issues required for making progress toward controlling ethnopolitical conflict.
Ellis will also present a lecture titled "Argument and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict," Feb. 9 at 6 p.m., in 129 Sims Hall as part of the CRS 630: Intercultural Communication course. He will discuss his research on the arguments made during discussions in Palestinian-Israeli reconciliation groups. All are invited.
Ellis is currently on a Fulbright Fellowship at Tel Aviv University and completing research for a book "Communication and Conflict and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict." He has published six books and numerous articles on argument, conflict and discourse analysis.
