On Jan. 30, the Palace Theater at 2384 James St., in Eastwood, will come alive with the sounds and colors of Bollywood. The Syracuse International Film and Video Festival (SIFVF) and SU faculty member Radha Ganesan, SIFVF seminar coordinator, will present the film, "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" ("I've Given My Heart, Beloved"). The screening begins at 3 p.m., and admission is $10.
Michael Heagerty, owner of the Palace Theater, is generously donating proceeds of the afternoon's event to benefit the 2005 SIFVF. The festival will share the proceeds with organizations working for tsunami relief efforts.
Full of extravagant song and dance and a colorful romance with multiple plot twists, "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" is typical of the Bollywood films popular in Asia, Africa and the United States. The term "Bollywood" comes from a contraction of Bombay and Hollywood. The film stars Aishwarya Rai-"the Queen of Bollywood" to her fans in India.
