The Syracuse University Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center is launching the first in a series of programs to help students, faculty and staff who need information, support and resources related to LGBT issues.

The LGBT Resource Center will present "Out and About in Our Community," a guest lecture series designed to promote dialogue and understanding of the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

"This lecture series is one of what we hope will be many milestones for the LGBT Resource Center as we strive to provide supportive educational and social programs for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people here at Syracuse University," said Adrea Jaehnig, director of the LGBT Resource Center. "The guest lecturers and their selected topics will address some key areas and provide important information to foster a better understanding of these issues on campus and within the community at-large."

The lecture topics for this semester include the following:

• Jan. 31-- "'Mom and Dad. I'm Not Heterosexual': How Families Negotiate Coming Out";


• Feb. 28-- "Mi Casa Es Tu Casa? Negotiating Queer Community With Ethnic/Cultural Identity"; and


• April 18-- "Seeking Community: The Stories of College Students Who Are Transgender and Their Search for Community and Themselves."

All lectures will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Stolkin Auditorium, located in the Physics Building on the SU campus. Parking is available in the Irving Garage.

The LGBT Resource Center, temporarily located at the SU Health Center, 111 Waverly Avenue (Room 006), provides support, referrals and resources to LGBT or questioning students, faculty and staff who seek support or have questions. During the Spring 2002 semester, the center will relocate to a new location at 750 Ostrom Avenue to provide more resources and
services.
