A funeral service for Andrew McClune, 18, a Lockerbie Scholar at Syracuse University, was held on the morning of Dec. 23 at the Chapel of Rest in his hometown of Lockerbie, Scotland.
Among those in attendance, and representing SU, were Judy O'Rourke from the Office of Undergraduate Studies and Peter Leuner from the Syracuse University London Centre.
McClune died in the early morning of Dec. 13 from injuries sustained as the result of a seven-story fall at his campus residence hall. He had arrived at SU in late summer to study for a year as part of the Lockerbie Scholars program, established to honor the mutual regard of the communities of Lockerbie and Syracuse that developed after the explosion of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie in December 1988.
McClune was remembered with prayers, the lighting of a candle and the laying of a red rose at SU's Place of Remembrance memorial during a Dec. 21 ceremony honoring those who died aboard Pan Am Flight 103. Among their number were 35 SU students who were returning from a semester of study abroad.
The University will hold a memorial service for McClune after the start of the spring semester.
A memorial fund has been established on behalf of McClune's family. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Deborah and Sandy Scott, and his three younger brothers: Iain, Alex and Christopher.
