Fred Karpoff, professor of music at Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts, has released a new CD of piano music. Called "Heroic Tales: Piano Music of Edward MacDowell," the CD features sonatas composed by MacDowell, who is considered to be America's first composer of serious stature.

Karpoff has served as the United States Information Agency (USIA) artistic ambassador to six countries in Europe and Africa. He has won prizes in several piano competitions and was featured on a PBS recital. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music.
