The Syracuse University Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee and the Syracuse Regional Martin Luther King Jr. Commission are seeking nominations for the 2004 "Unsung Heroes" Award.
The awards will be given to four people from the community and from the SU campus-who advance Dr. King's agenda in a significant way-during the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Dinner on Jan. 17, 2004, in the Carrier Dome. This year's celebratory dinner will include an evening program and a keynote address by Geoffrey Canada, president of Harlem Children's Zone.
Awards will be presented to one youth and one adult from the Syracuse community, and to one faculty or staff member and one student from SU. Those eligible are people whose personal and/or professional lives exemplify the spirit, lives and teaching of King, especially those individuals whose work to advance human rights has not been widely recognized in the community.
Nominations should be sent to James M. Heffernan, chair of the Awards Committee, in care of Hendricks Chapel, Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y. 13244-1110. The deadline for submitting nominations is Dec. 18.
For more information, call Heffernan at 470-4771.
