The 2003 holiday season will hit full swing with the annual Hendricks Chapel Holiday Concert at Syracuse University on Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.
The festivities will begin at 7 p.m. with a tree lighting ceremony in front of Hendricks Chapel. The Sour Sitrus Society will lead a carol sing-along before those attending are invited inside for the concert. The concert will feature traditional carols like "O Come All Ye Faithful," "White Christmas" and "Silent Night," as well as secular and Hanukkah songs. The Hendricks Chapel Choir, the Hendricks Chapel Handbell Ringers, SU faculty and members of the Syracuse Symphony will perform.
"SU's Holiday Concert transcends religion," says G. Burton Harbison, director of the Hendricks Chapel Choir. "The songs are selected to bring all people together in a moment of reflection, and in love and peace."
The evening will culminate in a communal candle lighting ceremony and the singing of "Silent Night."
"Because the concert takes place the Sunday after classes end, it is really an opportunity for the SU community to reflect on what has passed and look toward what is to come," says Harbison.
