The L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) will celebrate the contributions of engineers and computer scientists by designating February as E-Month on the SU campus. The college will host a series of diverse activities throughout the month around the theme "Innovations: Turning Ideas Into Reality."
"The motivation for ECS' E-Month is to educate, motivate and elevate: To educate the SU and CNY community about the tremendous positive impact engineers and computer scientists have on the quality of our lives, motivate our own students to achieve at the same level as the many successful ECS alums and local practicing professionals, and elevate the understanding and importance of engineering and computer science at SU," says Douglas D. Danforth Dean Eric F. Spina. "We have much to celebrate in ECS--the quality of our students, the relevance of our programs and an exceptional history of which the University can be proud.
E-Month will kick off with a special ceremony on Monday, Feb. 2, from 4-5 p.m. in Room 304 of the Schine Student Center. The event, which is free and open to the University community, will include remarks by Spina, displays and refreshments.
Among the other highlights of E-Month will be faculty and alumni presentations, ECS Olympics bridge-building and launch vehicle competitions and "Introduce a Girl to Engineering" Day. The month-long schedule of events is available on the Web at http://www.ecs.syr.edu/events/emonth.
