The Degas Quartet, Syracuse University's graduate quartet-in-residence, will present a concert at 8 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium in SU's Crouse College. The concert is free and open to the public.
The quartet will present works by Franz Joseph Haydn, Zoltan Kodaly and Johannes Brahms.
Founded in 1999 at the Bowdoin Music Festival, the quartet has performed as guest artists at Carnegie Weill Hall, the Music Under Construction series and on WQXR in New York City, and in the Colorado Quartets Soundfest Festival in Cape Cod. The quartet premiered two trombone quartets written for them and Haim Avitsur by Gerald Cohen and Robert Cuckson.
The group teaches chamber music in SU's Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music, College of Visual and Performing Arts, and is involved in chamber music outreach concerts in Central New York.
