The Syracuse University Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble and Women's Choir will perform a series of three concerts, Nov. 21, 22 and 23 respectively. All of the concerts will be held at 8 p.m. in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium and are free and open to the public.
Under the direction of Bradley P. Ethington, assistant director of SU Bands, the Symphony Band will perform on Nov. 21 and will feature works by Dvorak, Sullivan, Ticheli and Prokofiev.
The Wind Ensemble will perform on Nov. 22 under the direction of John Laverty, director of SU Bands. The Ensemble will perform H. Owen Reed's "La Fiesta Mexacana;" Eric Whitacre's "Noisy Wheels of Joy," with guest conductor James Spadafore; George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue," featuring Sar Strong on piano; and Ron Nelson's "Pasacagelia, Homage on B-A-C-H" with graduate conducting associate S. Daniel Galyen.
The SU Women's Choir will perform on Nov. 23 under the direction of Barbara Tagg. The program will feature works by Finish composer Harri Wessman, British composer Michael Neaum, Czech composer Otmar Macha and American composers Alice Parker, Gwyneth Walker and William Dawson. The choir will be accompanied by Leigh Gobrogge, a junior music education major.
