Princeton economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman will be the next University Lectures speaker, Nov. 20 at 4:30 p.m. in Syracuse University's Hendricks Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.
Krugman is known as a passionate and articulate speaker with talent for making the intricacies of global economics understandable to his audiences. His new book, "The Great Unraveling," is a New York Times bestseller based on his columns.
Krugman's work in economics has earned him several awards and broad acclaim from the economic press. He's been named as one of the top international economists by The Economist. In recognition of his work in international trade and finance, the American Economic Association awarded him its John Bates Clark medal. His previous book, "The Return of Depression Economics," looks at the various economic crises of the 1990s and sees an "eerie resemblance to the Great Depression," instead of the 'new world order' promised by the triumph of capitalism over socialism.
The University Lectures is a cross-disciplinary lecture series that brings to the University individuals of exceptional accomplishment in the areas of architecture and design; the humanities and the sciences; and public policy, management and communications.
