The critically acclaimed Kronos Quartet will perform at Syracuse University on Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Schine Student Center's Goldstein Auditorium.
The concert, sponsored by Hendricks Chapel's Malmgren Concert Series in celebration of the 75th anniversary of Hendricks Chapel, is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets may be reserved in advance by calling the Schine Student Center Box Office at (315) 443-4517, and will also be available at the door on the evening of the event. Parking will be available in the University, Waverly and Marion parking lots, all located off Waverly Avenue.
The concert was moved from its regular Hendricks Chapel venue because the chapel is currently undergoing renovation.
The quartet, comprised of violinists David Harrington and John Sherba, violist Hank Dutt and cellist Jennifer Culp, will perform a number of selections, including the world premiere of "String Quartet No. 2" by Syracuse composer Marc Mellits.
The Kronos Quartet, which began performing more than 30 years ago, has performed thousands of concerts worldwide, released more than 40 recordings and collaborated with some of the world's most eclectic composers and performers. The quartet has garnered a Grammy award for Best Chamber Music Performance (2004) and a "Musicians of the Year" award from Musical America (2003).
The Malmgren Concert Series was made possible by a generous gift to Hendricks Chapel from alumna Esther Malmgren '42 in 1991. The free Sunday afternoon concerts, held throughout the year, feature a wide variety of music.
