The Opera Workshop of Syracuse University's Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music will present "Figaro's Wedding" on Jan. 21 and 23 at 8 p.m. in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, located in Crouse College.
This year's production is an original English language adaptation of "The Marriage of Figaro," combining music from Mozart's opera with dialogue from the play by Beaumarchais. Guest artist Michael Connor (as Beaumarchais) will join an all-undergraduate cast and student orchestra, under the direction of James Tapia, associate professor of music.
"This is a completely new way of telling the story," says Eric D. Johnson, assistant professor of music and director of the Opera Workshop. "Our version is designed to be as accessible to first-time opera-goers as it is interesting to long-time fans of 'Figaro'."
Johnson and Sarabeth Wager co-direct this year's production, with set design by Johnson and costumes by SU graduate student Ben Wells.
Tickets are free for SU students with valid I.D. and $5 for all others. Parking is available in the Irving Garage.
