Groovestand, a 14-member student a cappella group at Syracuse University, will sing to raise money for the Twin Towers Fund at a series of concerts on campus. The concerts are open to the University community and donations will be collected at the door.
The first concert will be 5:30 p.m. Nov. 7 in the Maxwell Auditorium. The event will include Central New York firefighters and a Salvation Army representative, all of whom went to Ground Zero in New York City to help in the aftermath of the September 11 disaster.
On Nov. 9, the group will perform at dining halls across campus between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The Twin Towers Fund was established by New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani to assist, support and recognize the families of the members of the uniformed services of the New York City Fire Department and its Emergency Medical Service Command, the New York City Police Department, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New York State Office of Court Administration and other government personnel who lost their lives or were injured because of the tragedies of September 11 at the World Trade Center in New York City. If resources permit, the families of other persons who lost their lives or were injured during those tragedies may also be included as beneficiaries.
