Hugh Silverman, professor of philosophy and comparative literature at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, will visit Syracuse University on Oct. 23 to speak on "Postmodern Events: Heidegger, Lyotard and the Painting of Gerhard Richter." The presentation will begin at 4 p.m. in the Kilian Room, Room 500 of the Hall of Languages.
The lecture, part of "Virtual Religion," the Department of Religion's Fall 2003 Religion and Society Speaker Series, is free and open to the public. Visitor parking is available on a paid, space-available basis in the Irving and University Avenue garages.
Silverman is executive director of the International Association for Philosophy and Literature (IAPL). His areas of specialization include continental philosophy; contemporary European thought; and philosophy, literature and the arts.
