Faculty, staff and students are invited to nominate candidates to receive Syracuse University honorary degrees at the 2003 Commencement ceremony. The Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees has set Oct. 25 as the deadline for receipt of all nominations.
Persons wishing to nominate a candidate should send letter(s) of recommendation, including information as to why the candidate is deserving of a Syracuse University honorary degree; a copy of the nominee's vitae or resume or a list of the candidate's professional history and contributions; and, as appropriate, book reviews, articles and other materials that attest to the candidate's eminence. Nominating information should not exceed eight pages.
The Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees will review all nominations and recommend final candidates to the University Senate, which will make a final decision on degree recipients. If feasible for the candidate and appropriate for the program area, honorary degree recipients will be invited to present colloquia on Friday of Commencement Weekend.
Nominations should be submitted to the co-chairs of the Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees--Judy O'Rourke, senior administrator in the Office of the Vice President of Undergraduate Studies, and Eric Spina, associate dean in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science--in care of The Office of the Vice President for Undergraduate Studies, 304 Steele Hall.
