A pair of forums will be held this week to allow Syracuse University students living off campus an opportunity to address their concerns about safety in the community.
The discussions, ranging from apartment safety to lighting, will be held with members of the Syracuse Police Department, SU's Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Syracuse Property Owners Association, SU's Office of Government and Community Relations and SU's Division of Student Affairs.
"We hope that the various representatives who will be present can effectively dialogue with our off-campus students for a solution to the criminal activity and the perceived fear of crime in the community," says DPS Lt. Grant Williams.
The first forum will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 in the Erwin United Methodist Church, 920 Euclid Ave., across from the Westcott Community Center.
The second forum will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Alibrandi Catholic Center, 110 Walnut Place. This forum will be primarily for members of the Campus Hill Apartments community, and Mike Sullivan from Campus Hill will be among the panelists.
The forums will also provide an opportunity for students to learn more about the recent safety-related programs implemented by the University, such as the Shuttle U Home program.
