SU goes on the road to engage prospective students in the MENAT region


In less than one month, Sherlyn Sychua, regional manager for advancement and external affairs/ admissions, covered thousands of miles from Dubai to Turkey visiting high schools and attending educational fairs to share the Syracuse experience with prospective students in the Middle East and Turkey.

Dubai internship provides real-world, practical learning experiences


For the third consecutive year, Raymond International Pipeline Services Group is providing an invaluable opportunity for students from Syracuse University’s L C Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science (LCS) to travel to the Persian/Arabian Gulf region to learn first-hand about a real-world issue impacting the Arabian Peninsula—the supply of potable water in arid regions. Raymond International Headquarters is in Bahrain and has offices in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait and UK. 

Maxwell students and alumni gather for dinner in Istanbul


Maxwell alumni, along with students participating in the The Road to Democracy in the Islamic World course in Istanbul, Turkey, gathered last week for an alumni and student networking dinner.  Participants included (from left to right):  students Mariam Jaffrey, Philip McDonald, and Chung-wen Chen; alumna Selina Carter ‘12 MPA/IR, ’13  MA (Econ); Professor Mehrzad Boroujerdi; alumni Yunus Sozen ’02 MA (PSc) and Orhan Sener ’71 MPA (along with his guest); students Georgia Hamilton,  Aminata Bah, and Tuba Dokur; and alumnus Ozgur Usenmez ‘01 MAIR.

SU alumni participate in the Beirut Marathon


On November 10, 36,000 people participated in the 11th annual marathon organized by the Beirut Marathon Association. Many runners representing Syracuse University took part in this international event. Other SU alumni, family and friends staffed a lively cheering station on the race course in downtown Beirut to encourage the runners and walkers. Congratulations to all of the SU participants who completed the race!

The Middle East, North Africa and Turkey (MENAT) Regional Council focuses on elevating the university’s profile, while selectively building relationships in these key geographic areas.

Syracuse University alumni and industry representatives attended a symposium in the Gulf in December. Sponsored by the SU College of Engineering and Computer Science and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, the symposium was held in Dubai, UAE, and Dammam, Saudi Arabia. In Dubai, alumni listened to greetings from US Ambassador Michael Corbin at the Ritz Carlton.
