All first-time TAs are required to participate in an orientation program. The comprehensive, all-University orientation program held each August has three major components:

• International TA program: This time is devoted exclusively to the needs of our new international teaching assistants (ITAs).
• General program for both domestic and international TAs: The general portion of the orientation program offers a mix of concurrent and breakout sessions designed to prepare graduate students for their roles as teaching assistants (TAs).
• The three-day departmental component introduces TAs to graduate and undergraduate curricula and departmental practices.They also receive an orientation to their assigned teaching duties. These orientation activities are planned and implemented by the individual academic departments.

Registration information is e-mailed to new TAs prior to the orientation.
