Transfer Students

Approximately 10 to 15 percent of the undergraduate students entering SU each year are transfer students. About 300 new transfer students join us in the fall, and about 100 more transfer in the spring. If you are contemplating transferring from your current institution, we encourage you to use the links below to find out more about the transfer application process, credit transfer, and resources available for transfer students at SU.

We also recommend that you visit our page with Transfer FAQs.

Applying for Fall 2010

We continue to accept transfer applications for the Fall 2010 semester on a space-available basis. If you would like to apply, we encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.  Learn more about transfer requirements for applying to SU.

Articulation Agreements

We welcome transfer students from colleges across the country in almost all of our undergraduate programs of study. Syracuse University has transfer articulation relationships with a select number of colleges in New York State. However, you may attend a college that is not listed here and should consult the Admissions Office for proper course scheduling and advising.

The articulation agreements are developed as a tool for advisement to assist in the transferability of comparable coursework from selected community colleges to parallel programs of study at SU.  We currently have articulation agreements with the following colleges:

Cayuga County Community College
Monroe Community College
Onondaga Community College

Learn more about our colleges

Undergraduate students at SU can choose from more than 200 majors and 90 minors in our nine undergraduate colleges.

Visit campus

We hope you will visit us for an information session and campus tour. We also offer on-campus interviews for transfer students. We offer several daily visitation options throughout the year.

Financial aid

Approximately 80 percent of all admitted undergraduate students receive financial assistance. Syracuse University offers merit-based scholarships as well as need-based aid. Transfer students are eligible to receive merit scholarships up to $6000.  Learn more about financial aid and scholarships at SU.

Credit transfer

Syracuse University grants transfer credit for courses successfully completed at other accredited institutions or through means described in the "Academic Rules and Regulations" section of the Syracuse University Bulletin: Undergraduate Course Catalog. In general, transfer credit is allowed for courses worth three or more credits where you earned a "C" (2.0) or higher and for which there is a comparable course offered at Syracuse University. Transfer credit is evaluated after you are admitted, and generally, notification of approved credit is sent within two weeks. You do not have to commit to enrolling until you have received your credit evaluation.

Orientation

From the moment you step foot onto SU's campus, the community works hard to make you feel welcome and comfortable at your new home. View the list of orientation events designed for all students, including transfers.
