Transfer Students

Come home to SU!

Wherever you are in the transfer process, you are welcome at Syracuse!  Whether you will come from a community college, another university, the military, or will return to college after a break, we are excited about your interest in Syracuse University.  We appreciate the uniqueness of each student's situation.  Transfer students add to the richness of our diverse student body.  Approximately 350 new transfer students join us each fall, and 150 in the in the spring.

You may be concerned about making friends, navigating a new institution, or finding your niche on a new campus.  We will work with you to make the transition smooth and seamless.  SU offers more than 200 majors and over 300 student clubs and activities to help you find your place.

Syracuse University considers you a transfer student if you earned a high school diploma/GED, enrolled in a degree program at another college or university, and completed at least 12 credit hours.  If you have taken college classes without enrolling in a degree program, or will have less than 12 credits when you plan to enroll at Syracuse University, you should apply as a first-year student.  If you're unsure of your status, we recommend that you contact us at transfertosu@syr.edu

Credit transfer

Syracuse University grants transfer credit for courses successfully completed at other accredited institutions or through means described in the "Academic Rules and Regulations" section of the Syracuse University Bulletin: Undergraduate Course Catalog. In general, transfer credit is allowed for courses worth three or more credits where you earned a "C" (2.0) or higher and for which there is a comparable course offered at Syracuse University. Transfer credit is evaluated after you are admitted, and generally, notification of approved credit is sent within two weeks. You do not have to commit to enrolling until you have received your credit evaluation.

Orientation & Support

From the moment you step foot onto SU's campus, the community works hard to make you feel welcome and comfortable at your new home.
