This section outlines what you need to do to complete your application if you are a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and have attended an institution of higher education for any
period of time after graduating from secondary school and received
graded credit in academic coursework.
Syracuse University considers you a transfer student if you earned a
high school diploma/GED, enrolled in a degree program at another college
or university, and completed at least 12 credit hours. If you have
taken college classes without enrolling in a degree program, or will
have less than 12 credits when you plan to enroll at Syracuse
University, you should apply as a first-year student. If you're unsure
of your status, we recommend that you contact us at transfertosu@syr.edu
Transfer students are evaluated primarily on the basis of their college-level work.
If you have not already chosen a program of study, be sure to review our Academic Options (Colleges/Majors). Many of our schools and colleges allow students to apply as undecided majors, if they wish.
Next, please review our Transfer Requirements. Please note that if you have completed fewer than 30 credits of
college-level academic coursework, you must also submit an official
copy of your high school transcript along with official ACT/SAT score reports.
Once the above items are completed, please review our College Requirements to find out if you need to submit any additional materials (portfolio, audition, etc).
2 + 2 Programs are offered to students studying at Onondaga Community College and Georgia Perimeter College. If you are applying for one of these programs please complete and submit the appropriate forms.
For College of Arts and Sciences/Integrated Learning Majors: Energy and its Impacts, Ethics, Forensic Science, Neuroscience
Integrated Learning Majors
complement traditional majors with coursework in an applied or
multidisciplinary field. You can choose from a variety of majors in
combination with one of the ILMs. For instance, you might study Biology
in concert with Forensic Science. You may not apply directly to an ILM,
as its study must be integrated with a traditional discipline.
Therefore, we recommend selecting on the Common Application Supplement
the major corresponding to the ILM’s host department:
• Energy and its Impacts: Physics • Ethics: Philosophy • Forensic Science: Chemistry • Neuroscience: Psychology
After You Have Applied
You may monitor the status of your application materials online using your Syracuse University ID (SUID) number beginning this fall. This number will be printed on mailed items we send to you, or you may call our office (315-443-3611) or e-mail (orange@syr.edu) and we will be glad to provide this number to you.
Please allow 2-4 weeks after items arrive on campus for them to be reflected in your online status.
Do not forget about applying for Financial Aid! Syracuse University requires students who wish to be considered for need-based aid to complete both the FAFSA and CSS profile.
