Two Academic Recommendations
TOEFL or IELTS required (if English is not your native language). The SAT/ACT is optional for international students studying outside of the U.S. For more information, English Proficiency Requirements.
The SAT/ACT is optional for international students studying outside the U.S. Although we do not require the SAT or ACT to be considered for admission, we encourage students to submit scores if available. In addition, all international undergraduate applicants to Syracuse University whose first language is not English must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System). Please review our Standardized Testing Requirements for more information.
*Please note, prospective Division I student athletes must take the SAT or ACT in order to meet NCAA eligibility requirements.
If you have not already chosen a program of study, be sure to review our Academic Options (Colleges/Majors). Many of our schools and colleges allow students to apply as undecided majors, if they wish.
When you have chosen an enrollment option and intended program of study, it is time to to begin the Common Application and Syracuse University Supplement (pdf). Please note that both the Common Application and Syracuse University Supplement should be completed and submitted electronically through www.commonapp.org.
Once the above items are completed, please review our College Requirements to find out if you need to submit any additional materials (portfolio, audition, etc).
If you will be applying to Syracuse University under Early Decision, then you must complete and submit the Early Decision Agreement through the Common Application. As an Early Decision candidate, you agree to enroll at Syracuse University if admitted to your preferred college. You may apply to other colleges and universities through regular decision with the understanding that you will withdraw these applications if admitted to Syracuse University.
For College of Arts and Sciences/Discovery Florence Applicants Only
If you will be applying to The College of Arts and Sciences and wish to be considered for the Discovery Florence first-semester study abroad program, then you must complete and submit the Discovery Florence Supplement. Additionally, Discovery Florence requires a telephone interview. Please call our office at 315-443-3611 to schedule. Due to Italian Visa application requirements, students applying to Discovery Florence for the fall 2012 semester must be at least 18 years of age by July 1, 2012.
For College of Arts and Sciences/Integrated Learning Majors: Energy and its Impacts, Ethics, Forensic Science, Neuroscience
Integrated Learning Majors complement traditional majors with coursework in an applied or multidisciplinary field. You can choose from a variety of majors in combination with one of the ILMs. For instance, you might study Biology in concert with Forensic Science. You may not apply directly to an ILM, as its study must be integrated with a traditional discipline. Therefore, we recommend selecting on the Common Application Supplement the major corresponding to the ILM’s host department:
• Energy and its Impacts: Physics • Ethics: Philosophy • Forensic Science: Chemistry • Neuroscience: Psychology
For Homeschooled Students Only
Please review our Requirements for Homeschooled Students for more information. For more information, please contact our office by phone (315-443-3611) or e-mail (orange@syr.edu) to discuss academic credential requirements.
After You Have Applied
You will be able to monitor the status of your application materials using your Syracuse University ID (SUID) number beginning this fall. This number will be printed on mailed items we have sent to you, or you may call our office (315-443-3611) or e-mail (orange@syr.edu) and we will be glad to provide this number to you.
Please allow 4-6 weeks after items arrive on campus for them to be reflected in your online status. We encourage international applicants to use a shipping service that requires a delivery confirmation signature (this will confirm the exact date and time your materials arrive on campus).
Early Decision applicants can expect to receive their admissions notifications via e-mail and standard mail prior to January 1. Regular Decision applicants can expect to receive their admissions notification via e-mail and standard mail in late March - early April.
