Housing and Meal Plans
The online housing application will be available beginning January 20, 2012.
You must complete the following steps prior to gaining access to the online housing application:
For a tutorial on completing the online housing application, go to http://housingmealplans.syr.edu/
If your immediate family resides in the Syracuse area and you plan to commute from home, please check the appropriate box on the online Housing and Meal Plan Application.
If you are not obligated to the University's two-year, on-campus living requirements and you plan to live off campus, please check the appropriate box on the online Housing and Meal Plan Application.
Shortly after the Candidates Reply Date, the Office of Housing assigns a random number to each online housing application received from new first-year and transfer students. The randomly assigned number will establish the order in which applications are processed and is designed to promote a fair and equitable system for all new students that is inclusive and encourages students from different backgrounds to live together. Housing assignments will be made in the order of the assigned number and will take into consideration any living and learning opportunities, mutual roommate requests, or special circumstances you have indicated on the online Housing and Meal Plan Application. The University will not accept requests for housing in a specific room type or residence hall.
First-year students live in one of the following residence halls on Main Campus: Boland, Brewster, Brockway, Day, DellPlain, Ernie Davis, Flint, Haven, Lawrinson, Sadler, and Shaw. First-year students typically live in a double with another first-year student. More information on floor plans, building descriptions, specific living options, and virtual tours of rooms is available from the Office of Housing.
Transfer students live on Main or South Campus. We encourage transfer students who have completed fewer than 40 credit hours to reside in University housing unless they are students with families or students who commute from the permanent home of their immediate family. Housing for transfers is on a space-available basis until all vacancies are filled. More information on floor plans, building descriptions, specific living options, and virtual tours of rooms is available from the Office of Housing.
You will receive your housing assignment and University mailing address in early August. We will also provide you with the name, home address, and home telephone number of your roommate (if available) and other important information. The University does not accept requests to change housing assignments until the beginning of October. At that time you may place your name on a waiting list for a move within your hall; however, most moves do not occur until spring semester.
All Main Campus and Skyhall residents are required to purchase a meal plan. Your options for a meal plan are based on your class year. First-year students may choose one of three plans: the Deluxe Meal Plan, the 19-Meal Plan, or the 14-Meal Plan. Indicate which meal plan you want on the online Housing and Meal Plan Application. You may change to a lower meal plan through September 7, 2012. After September 7, you cannot change to a lower meal plan until the second semester.
If your questions on housing or meal plans are not answered here, please visit the Office of Housing, Meal Plan, and I.D. Card Services web site or contact the office at housing@syr.edu or 315-443-2721.
