Affording SU: Financial Aid for International Students

Syracuse University welcomes accomplished students from across the world. Your perspectives and background enrich the learning experience for all SU students--and your degree will prepare you to succeed at home or wherever your future takes you.

As an international student, you are potentially eligible for two different types of financial aid:

Merit-based scholarships are awarded on the basis of exceptional academic and personal achievement. Selection is made by the Office of Admissions and eligibility is based on a student's academic credentials. Eligible students will be notified after they are admitted to Syracuse University.

Need-based awards are offered to students who are selected by the Office of Admissions and who demonstrate financial need through the College Scholarship Service (CSS) International PROFILE Application.

To learn more about the above programs, email us, or telephone our office at (315) 443-1513.

An international student is a non-resident alien on a non-immigrant visa which permits full time study in the United States. A student must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen (permanent resident) to receive federal financial aid. Please note: Students who have a "Notice of Approval to Apply for Permanent Residence" (Forms I-171 or I-464) or an "Application for Voluntary Departure Under the Family Unity Program" (Form I-797) are NOT eligible for federal financial aid.
