Syracuse University

Financial Aid - How to Apply

Undergraduate Students

Syracuse University offers financial aid in the form of merit-based scholarships, need-based grants, and student employment, as well as student and parent educational loans. Syracuse University will award students financial aid to the extent that funds are available.

Application Requirements

Scholarships are awarded to students only at the time of admission to recognize prior academic achievement; no separate application is required for merit-based scholarships.

Two financial aid forms are required for all other financial aid and should be filed before our deadlines

They are:

1.     CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE*

2.     Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA

*Filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is free. There is a fee associated with filing the CSS/Financial Aid Profile. A limited number of fee waivers are granted automatically - based on the information entered on the PROFILE application - to US citizens or eligible noncitizens who are first-time college applicants and/or are from families with very low income and assets. This waiver covers the application fee and the reporting fees for up to six colleges or scholarship programs.

If you need assistance completing your financial aid applications, seek help at your high school guidance office, or college financial aid office.  As the financial aid process has become more complex, there has been a significant increase in the number of individuals and organizations offering professional financial aid services for a fee to students and their families. As a wise consumer, you should exercise caution to avoid being taken advantage of, and be sure you fully understand the services that are offered. Be wary of organizations that charge a fee to submit your financial aid application or to find you money for college.

Dates and Deadlines

To be certain you receive the maximum amount of financial aid, it is important to meet our deadlines.
