About the Student Handbook

A message from Dean Thomas V. Wolfe

Dear Syracuse University Student:

Congratulations on your admittance to SU.

More than anything else, I love to welcome new students to our campus. You have been preparing your whole life for this opportunity, and on behalf of all of us in the Division of Student Affairs, I am glad to welcome you.

I want to share a couple thoughts with you…

The most important thing about your first year is to get engaged immediately. Find a community of people, maybe a club or other kind of activity that catches your attention. Try something new for the first time. You will meet a lot of new people that way and you’ll begin to bond with new friends right away. We look forward to that experience for you.

At Syracuse, there are multiple resources on campus designed to enhance and support your college experience. We call this network the Division of Student Affairs. We integrate these resources with your academic program. We are really interested in your development and your engagement with the world around you. Make sure you access these resources. They are here for you. We want to serve your needs, particularly as you settle into your first year, but also throughout your whole experience at SU.

To help you with all of this, we have the student handbook. Check it out. The student handbook is an opportunity for you to know where those resources are, to know things that are essential to your academic experience, and to make sure you understand some of the policies that govern our lives together at the University. It will answer a lot of your questions. If you have further questions, seek out someone in Student Affairs. They are glad to help you further.

We stand in relationship to you and walk along with you during your whole experience at the University. We look forward to the many ways we are going to engage with you, as you contribute to making our University a diverse and wonderful place.

It brings me great joy to welcome you to Syracuse University.
