The SU Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs (FASA) announced that on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, Alpha Gamma Delta’s Alpha Chapter returned to Syracuse University. The re-colonization was celebrated at FASA’s annual Bid Day.
Through the effort of Alpha Gamma Delta’s extension team and leadership consultants, Alpha Gamma Delta hosted two open house events and three days of infoview sessions, during which more than 200 potential new members were interviewed by members of International Council, the Volunteer Service Team and International Headquarters staff. The selection of more than 100 women brings Alpha Gamma Delta to a chapter size comparable to the other Greek groups on campus.
“We are very excited about the return of Alpha Gamma Delta to our campus,” says Eddie D. Banks-Crosson, director of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs. “We are proud of the long tradition of our fraternity and sorority community, and are delighted that Alpha Gamma Delta will rejoin it. After all, this is where it all began.”
The colonization process began when Alpha Gamma Delta was invited to colonize at SU last spring. The new colony will participate in formal recruitment this January with the rest of the Panhellenic groups on campus.
Alpha Gamma Delta was founded in 1904 at SU as a women’s fraternity dedicated to scholarship, leadership and community service. Beginning in fall 2011, Alpha Gamma Delta will be based in Butterfield House, the chapter’s original residence.
Alpha Gamma Delta has installed 184 chapters on campuses throughout the United States and Canada, with a total membership exceeding 155,000. One of the first sororities to espouse a particular cause, Alpha Gamma Delta internationally supports diabetes awareness and education. For more information, contact Banks-Crosson at ebankscr@syr.edu.
