David Jasper joins the TACNY Board of Directors as Vice President

David Jasper, technical services staff member within the Division of Student Affairs, was recently elected Vice President on the Board of Directors for the Technology Alliance of Central New York (TACNY), est. 1903. In addition, he was appointed Chair of the Technical Societies Council (TSC ) for the greater CNY region.

David was elected to the Board of Directors after over half a decade of service to the outreach programs offered to the community. He has earned himself the nickname “The Rocketman” through his involvement with the annual CNY Rocket Challenge, an event held at Syracuse University for Middle School and High School competitors across the region. David is very involved with outreach programs geared toward the youth of the community because he feels that engaging our youth in fun science and engineering-oriented programs will increase their interest in these fields as they explore careers.

He has appeared as a guest speaker for the Junior Café Scientific Lecture Series on two separate occasions, and participates each year in the annual Build ‘em and Bust ‘em Bridge Building Competition held at the MOST. In addition, he has been involved with other Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) facilitated programs, such as the VEX Robotics Competition and the Mousetrap Car Competition over the years.

“I believe that encouraging youngsters to think critically, using innovative approaches, while mixing in fun activities will help gear individuals to explore the worlds of Science and Engineering," says David. "These outreach programs help expose kids to Science and Engineering as viable career options. I hope the participants will go on from these experiences to eventually become the creators and innovators for our future.”
