Board of Trustees Officers: Secretary

The Secretary and Assistant Secretary oversee Trustee Relations at Syracuse University. Their mission is to support the work of the Board, serve its members and continually seek ways to improve the overall effectiveness of the Board. The Secretary gives notice of all meetings of the Board and Executive Committee and is present at and records the minutes of all meetings. The Secretary is also the custodian of the Charter and Bylaws, minutes, records and other documents of the Board and its committees and the custodian of the Seal of the University.

Eleanor Ware Secretary

Eleanor Ware, Senior Vice President for Human Services and Government Relations serves as Secretary to the Board of Trustees and is the liason between trustees and the campus community. Support for this position comes from Kathryn Zubal-Strang, Assistant Secretary to the Board.

Mrs. Ware has been with Syracuse University since 1978. Prior to her appointment as Senior Vice President, she served in the combined position of Executive Assistant to the Chancellor, Executive Director for Government Relations, and Secretary to the Board of Trustees. Before moving to Syracuse in 1976, she was a state certified teacher specializing in early childhood education in the New York City school system.

Mrs. Ware is a member of the board of directors of the University Hill Corporation; NYIEQ, Inc.; and the National Alumni Association of Syracuse University. She has served on the board of directors for Key Bank, the Everson Museum, and the RLS Career Center, and as a member of the Onondaga County Partnership for the Arts, the Mayor’s Airport Privatization Committee, the University Neighborhood Preservation Association, and the University Neighborhood Service Agreement Advisory Committee.

Mrs. Ware earned her Bachelor of Arts degree (magna cum laude) from Queens College-CUNY in 1960, where she was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She earned an MBA in 1985 from Syracuse University and pursued postgraduate work at Harvard University’s Institute for Educational Management in 1988.



Kathryn Zubal-StrangAssistant Secretary

Kathryn Zubal-Strang is the Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trustees where she is responsible for coordinating the activities of the Board and handling the day to day operations and organization of the Board of Trustees.

Ms. Zubal-Strang has been with Syracuse University since 1993. Prior to her appointment as Assistant Secretary, she worked with SU's Regional Alumni Clubs in the Office of Alumni Relations. Before joining the University, she worked with the New York State Institute for Health and Human Services as a Director of Educational Program Services.

Kathy earned her Bachelor of Arts degree (cum laude) from Syracuse University in 1987, where she was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She is married to Theodore G. Strang, a 1988 graduate of the College of Environmental Science and Forestry and the mother of Allison Brice and Garrett Louis Strang.
