The executive committee acts on behalf of the full Board between its meetings in May and November. It has the legal authority of the full Board for all matters except granting degrees and honorary degrees, election of the Chancellor, removals from office, election of trustees, and amendment, alteration or repeal of the bylaws.
At the monthly meetings, the executive committee takes care of any University business that cannot be delayed until the full Board convenes. The executive committee also serves in an advisory capacity to the Chancellor, and receives reports from other Board Committees, the Chancellor and other University offices and student representatives to the Board. Minutes of the meetings serve as the executive committee's reports to the Board and are sent to all trustees to keep them informed of transactions made and reports received.
The chair of the Board serves as chair of the executive committee and the secretary to the board as its secretary. Two undergraduates and one graduate student elected by their respective student government organizations as representatives to the Board, are invited to attend all executive committee meetings.
