Barry L. Wells
Senior Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs
Barry L. Wells serves as Senior Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs at Syracuse University. Dean Wells, who
joined the University in 1976, has been involved in establishing and developing numerous programs and services for more
than 20 years. He has also taught courses in the University's Honors Program and in The College of Arts and Sciences.
As Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Student Relations, Dean Wells serves as the senior student affairs officer
responsible to the Chancellor for oversight of the 23 departments in the Division of Student Affairs. The departments work
collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to create programs and services that encourage and promote citizenship,
community, diversity, leadership, personal growth and individual well-being.
Prior to assuming his current position in December 1995, Dean Wells held several positions, including Interim Vice President and Dean, Associate Dean, Assistant Dean and Director of Academic Advising and Counseling Services in The College of Arts and Sciences, Associate Director of Financial Aid, Assistant Director for Student Services for Minority Affairs, and Coordinator for Minority Affairs.
He has written and spoken widely on a range of topics including leadership, academic advising, student retention, academic integrity, and diversity in higher education.
