Emily Allen, member of the Class of 2011 and dedicated member of the SU family, we salute your enduring Orange Spirit and drive to live your Syracuse experience to the fullest.
Throughout your years at Syracuse University, you have demonstrated your leadership skills and inspired many others to strive for academic and personal excellence and achievement. As a 2010-11 Remembrance Scholar, you organized a candlelight vigil and campout which served to educate our current SU community about the lessons learned from the Pan Am 103 tragedy. You spearheaded the attendance of 14 Remembrance Scholars at the annual December memorial service in Washington. D.C., and visited Lockerbie, Scotland over spring break to talk to students at Lockerbie Academy about the Remembrance and Lockerbie Scholarships and the benefits of studying abroad at SU.
You created OrangeAID, a student organization that promotes HIV/AIDS awareness on campus and in the surrounding community. This organization grew from your previous experience volunteering at Safe Haven on Martha’s Vineyard, a camp for kids with HIV/AIDS.
As an Orientation Leader, you have connected with incoming first-year students and parents, helping them to make a smooth transition into college life. Fellow Orientation Leaders have been known to look to you to emulate your style and way of making others feel welcome. In addition to these leadership roles, you have also proudly served as a member of the University 100, Alpha Phi Omega, Habitat for Humanity and been a four year member of the SU’s Club Hockey Team. You are a true inspiration to those around you.
Emily, in honor of your positive impact on your Syracuse University community, outstanding academic achievements, and caring commitment to improving the lives of others, we are proud to present to you the 2011 Orange Spirit Award.
