Brian is a life long resident of New Jersey and a 1978 honors graduate of the Whitman School of Management, having majored in Marketing Management and Transportation and Distribution Management (now known as Supply Chain Management).
While at Syracuse, he was active in many organizations, including University Senate, Student Association, University Union, and co-founded the School of Management Dean's Advisory Board and the School of Management Newsletter. Brian was also a Resident Advisor and campus representative for BusinessWeek magazine. As a sophomore, he developed and co-taught with Professor Theodore Wallin (the Management Honors Advisor) the first freshmen level management course offered at SU, and reprised that role during the fall semester of his senior year. Brian's honors thesis, "The Selling of an Education - Selective Marketing Efforts of Syracuse University," focused on the marketing efforts of SU in the admissions, parents, alumni and development areas.
In 2002, Brian re-founded and became President of the Northern New Jersey Alumni Club, which was the beginning of his renewed love affair and commitment to the future of SU. The Club quickly grew to over 150 members, ran very successful new student sendoffs, held the first welcome back/soft landing event for new graduates (which was recognized as the Alumni Event of the Year in 2004), welcomed four SU deans over two years as guest speakers, and gave Northern New Jersey the high visibility it deserved in the eyes of potential students, alumni, parents and friends. The SUNNJAC was recognized as Alumni Club of the Year in 2005.
In 2005, Brian joined the SUAA Board of Directors, and Ira Berkowitz became President of the Club. Ira has continued to preside over a very successful alumni club and to maintain a high visibility for SU in the area. Brian continues to serve on its Board.
Since 2005, Brian has served on the SUAA Board of Directors, first on the Clubs Committee, then as Chair of the Committee, then as Chair of the Off-Campus Programs Committee, and most recently as Vice President and Chair of the new Fund-raising Committee, overseeing the Roots alumni wear project he developed, as well as the roll out of the new marketing campaign for the Orange Grove, which is targeted for the fall of 2010. He has also been a contributing member of the SUAA Executive Committee.
In addition to his service at the local and national levels, Brian has been an Alumni Admissions Representative since 2003 and has attended numerous college fairs, interviewed potential students and made presentations at other events. Brian and his wife Beth served on the National Parents Board from 2004-2008. Brian has also worked on development projects for the Whitman School of Management, including the creation of a scholarship in memory of his fellow alum and close childhood friend - Robert Fish.
At the SU Alumni Association annual meeting on Monday, June 14th, Brian was elected to the President-Elect position for a one-year term.
Brian's daughter Stephanie graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences in 2008. Brian practices business law in Northern New Jersey.
